Seven Christmas markets in Dusseldorf
The Christmas market or Advents market offers late medieval fairs and markets stalls, which were put up in the beginning of the cold season and stocked up with meats and treats for the coming months.
In the first half of the 20th Century Christmas markets have been an integral part of the Christmas season. During the actual Christmas Day and Boxing Day the Christmas markets are normally closed.
In Dusseldorf, you can choose from seven different Christmas markets:
Christmas market on the market square
The Christmas market area with its huts in front of the historic town hall, provides magical scenes in the heart of the old town. Traders such as iron work, wood turners and glass blowing offer here there products. The Christmas market visitors can watch the artisans at work.
Little ones can enjoy a ride on the nearly 100 year old restored carousel. And during the cold season warm up with mulled wine and hot chocolate.
"Angel market" on the Heinrich-Heine-Square
The "heavenly" sea of lights and the ever-present golden cherubs characterise the atmosphere of this market in front of the luxury department store Carsch-house. Visitors can enjoy traditional, but also unusual delicacies. From the bandstand the smell of mulled wine moves through the air.
Christmas market Flinger Street
The Flinger street connects the angel market with the market square. The facades are modeled after the Dusseldorf houses. The annual mulled wine pyramid is this year again the meeting place for young and old.
"Stary market" by the town bridges
Find an idyllic location and immersed in the mysterious light of the crystals and twinkling stars at the "Sternchenmarkt" in the courtyard of Wilhelm-Marx-House - a beautiful and romantic winter landscape.
Christmas market Schadow square
The small timber houses are covered with fresh green fir tree branches. The Schadowplatz offers a variety of culinary delights. Visitors will find the oldest Poffertjes (Dutch batter treat) stall at the Dusseldorf Christmas market, which has been established for 30 years.
Christmas market at the Gustaf-Gruendgens-Square
The 450 square meter ice rink is the highlight of the markets. While young and old can skate on ice, the audience watches with mulled wine and potato pancakes. On the popular cheese alm visitors can find raclette on offer.
Christmas market on the Shadow Street
The children's carousel invites younger kids to go round while articians and traders offer their products to the Christmas market visitors.
